  • The government's recent announcement to introduce a new funding model for adult social care, based on the recommendations of the Dilnot Commission, is the latest development in the long history of many attempts to review the way in which social care is funded and how the costs of these services are shared between the individual and the state. But while the government's announcement has generally been welcomed by charities, local government and care providers as a step forward, there is general agreement that the number of people who will be helped by the new arrangements is limited and the pressures on the existing system are growing.
