  • This conference was organised as part of the process of helping podiatrists to move towards evidence-based practice. It had the specific objective of helping purchasers to define and buy good quality chiropody services. The subjects of presentations at this conference included: why evidence-based clinical decisions are important; evidence-based developments in the treatment of the diabetic foot; common issues and problems for purchasers and providers and ways in which they could be managed; and essential elements of good practice in podiatry purchasing. It was hoped that the report would stimulate further debate and good practice between purchasers and providers locally, and that these debates would also inform and involve other clinicians, patients and their representatives. In this way, through collaborative working at all levels, podiatry services would become more clinically effective, and more responsive to local needs.
