The six case studies in this book describe how purchasers, one of them a fundholding practice, bought interventions to improve the health of local populations in direct response to information which had revealed particular needs. The case studies have been published as examples of good practice because this effective and appropriate response is still a rare event. The projects are: ophthalmology in Bolton; access to primary care on the Bournville estate, Weston-super-Mare; elective D & C in Buckinghamshire; using information in primary care at Castlefields health centre, Runcorn; teenage pregnancy in Cornwall; and ophthalmology in Enfield and Haringey.
