Strategic agenda for medical directors discussion paper
Abstract
This paper discusses the role of a senior medical doctor on the board of NHS trusts who has to advise the board on medical matters and to lead the doctors within the organisation. The authors reflect on the views of medical directors who have discussed these issues with the authors in workshops over 1994. The authors consider the job of the the medical director; the job specification; likes and dislikes; supports and incentives available; priorities for medical directors; and future directions or strategic contributions.
