  • This is the first issue charting the progress of developments in London's health services. Included are: a calendar of events from October 1992 to December 1993; a commentary on the development of the planning process in London including the series of reports from the Government and other professional bodies. There is a chapter on facts and figures of London, including population census data; projections for 1992 and 1998; the structure of the population of London's purchasers; mortality rates; the amount of funds available to London purchasers; the amount of hospital and community health services; a profile of hospital provision in terms of resource availability; and a map of London's boundaries for purchasers from April 1994. The section under analysis and debate has five articles. The first by Ainna Fawcett-Henesy looks at the future for primary care in London; the second by Hilary Scott describes the East London primary care development project; Martin Roberts looks at what purchasers do in South East London; Sean Boyle and Adam Darkins describe purchasing of specialist health care in London; and Roselyn Wilkinson looks at standardised illness ratios for London using the 1991 census data.
