Abstract
  • This conference was arranged by the King's Fund Centre to promote informed debate about the report of the Social Services Committee of the House of Commons on Medical Education, and the Governments response published in its White Paper in February 1982. Reactions to the proposal for change were debated and ways of overcoming the obstacles to change were examined. Issues raised included staffing ratios, unemployment and the medical profession, medical school intake, overseas doctors in the NHS, women doctors, the role of the sub-consultant and similar grades and the resources available for change.
