This conference was held to discuss the second report of the Maternity Service Advisory Committee, Maternity care in action - care during childbirth (Intrapartum care). The purpose of the conference was to consider how health authorities, professionals, voluntary groups and consumer organisations could best contribute to the enhancement of the birth experience for parents and infant. Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the guidelines contained in the report and to the factors which appeared to facilitate or inhibit the establishment and effective functioning of district Maternity Services Liaison Committees.
