  • This study arose from an invitation from the King's Fund to study the job of the district administrator in the NHS and to find out what it is really like. 41 senior administrators were interviewed and eight of them observed at work for three days. The findings show wide variation in the way administrators go about their work, in their relationships with subordinates, members of the management teams and the health authorities, and in their involvement with the press and other groups and individuals outside the health service.
