  • The first five papers of the conference are reproduced in this document. The first speaker gave a brief history of the development of health centres and suggested that at a time when there is likely to be increasing discussion about health centres, past experience and future changes in the practice of medicine should be considered. The second speaker attempts to paint a picture of as comprehensive a service as he could envisage within existing staffing constraints. The third speaker talked about a particular health centre project. The talk of the fourth speaker is presented in summary form. The fifth speaker assumes that the general principle has been accepted, that of buildings being used jointly by general practitioners and local health authorities, and discusses practicalities of health centre building design. Plans of health centres are included in the back of the document.
