Community Health Councils have the right to visit hospitals and other health care premises and to comment on what they find. In practice, it can be difficult and time consuming to achieve a worthwhile visit. This booklet is an attempt to suggest some guidelines and good practices which can make the effort involved in these activities more satisfactory to all concerned. It is hoped that the suggestions in the booklet will be examined critically to work out an appropriate and useful approach in different local situations.
