  • There is widespread acceptance of the need for health care professionals to obtain the views of service users but there is confusion over the best way of accomplishing this task. What is offered here is a practical guide to enable health care professionals to decide from whom they want to get feedback, why they want to do it, how they want to do it, and in what way they can ensure that service improvements occur as a result. It provides a basic introduction to the subject, including discussion of the concept of `patient satisfaction' and the description of an approach which avoids some of the pitfalls associated with this complex area.
