  • The purpose of this manual is to provide a comprehensive set of organisational standards covering the major aspects of an acute general hospital. This will form the basis of a professional peer review (the survey) the aim of which is to support the staff of hospitals in the provision of high quality patient care. The principle underlying this approach is that by voluntarily submitting to survey, those hospitals participating in the process are seeking to demonstrate the capability of their organisations to provide such care. the guide is intended for use by all staff in hospitals to be surveyed in order to prepare for survey. It is envisaged that the standards will be appropriate for an average acute general hospital of a size to support all major services including an accident and emergency department.
