  • This report considers how, if at all, the present pattern of hospital administration might need alteration in the light of changes that have taken place since 1948 and of further changes that may be brought about during the next 15 years by the development of district hospitals. The terms of reference for the report were: to consider existing systems of management of hospitals in England and Wales at district level; to consider changes that might be required in these systems and suggest a management pattern for the future bearing in mind the advent of district hospitals. The 16 recommendations made are summarised.
