In recent years there has been considerable discussion about how the National Training Scheme (NTS) has been run and how it might evolve in the future. Over the past eighteen months, Regional Supervisors responsible for organising the NTS in the four Thames and Wessex regions have met regularly at the King's Fund to work on ways of improving the current scheme. Discussion at the two-day workshop covered the present state of the NTS and expectations of prospective employers of National Trainees in the 5 regions. Different approaches to graduate training were examined and also the relationships between preceptors and regional supervisors.
