Those who have been suffering from mental health problems present particularly difficult problems with re-integration into the community. This project paper examines a scheme for volunteer support for discharged psychiatric patients. With the help of a grant from Oxford R.H.A. a befriending scheme was set up and this report describes the organisation, results and conclusions of the scheme. Case studies are used to provide a balanced picture of the project and diaries kept by two volunteers are included which provide the essential perspective of what it feels like to be a volunteer.
